TASS in cooperation with MOEHE and with the support of UNHCR launched a campaign known as “Back to school “ aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of education and to send children back to school with an emphasis on children among the refugees, asylum seekers, and returnees.

TASS project staff in Bosaso, Gardo, Garowe, and Galkaio with government officials visited refugee camps, asylum seekers, and returnee’s settlements and conveyed awareness messages to send children back to school.

During the campaign the project staff distributed IEC materials with information to encourage education, especially for girls’ education in refugee families, asylum seekers, and returners.

In addition, the IEC materials were translated to different languages to serve the different stakeholders that the project targets 200 beneficiaries comprising parents, RASCEC members, elders, and business communities reached.

The campaign aimed to intensify advocacy, communication, and social mobilization efforts to encourage parents to send children to schools during the campaign the project team encountered children among the RAS families who do not attend schools and we were advised by their parents and caregivers to bring children to schools in next intake.

Moreover, the project staff stressed that education is a fundamental right and that every child has the right to quality education and children cannot be prevented from enrolling in schools and there are no conditions attached to it.

This campaign will drive many parents in the RAS community to send their children to schools. It is True that our children especially girls are in dire need of education.
