TASS held a well-organized ceremony commemorating 30th years of humanitarian and Development operations in Somalia at Martisoor hotel in Garowe attended by dignitaries including Puntland state ministers, DGs, partner representatives and civil society organizations and members of the public.
During the ceremony TASS presented a summary of its achievements and impact over the thirty years of its existence from 1992 to 2023. Different speakers including the founders of TASS, Executive director, Ministers, public figures highlighted the importance of TASS’s humanitarian and development works in Somalia and the impact it has had on beneficiaries and the society at large.
In the ceremony live examples were presented including TASS educated persons who are now Ministers in Puntland government. They spoke about TASS support to them during the childhood and how they were educated in TASS established schools. During the event before and after lunch break there were entertainment including poetry by Abwan Shube and songs by Najmo.
There were also appreciation awards given to different institutions and Individuals Who Contributed to TASS humanitarian works including Ministries, Universities, and Business Companies.
Finally, there was a debate on the role of local/national NGOs in Somalia, their improvement and sustainability. The MOPEDIC State Minister, TASS Program manager and Somali Diaspora and Somali NGO Consortium representatives. The final recommendations from the participants during the event in summary were:
- Local/National NGOs to undertake local resource mobilization and fundraising to sustain their humanitarian and support services.
- The government should empower local/National NGOs to complement their services as duty bearers.
- It was also recommended that local/National NGOs to improve their capacities and internal control systems to access funding opportunities and sustain their services.
- TASS was also recognized as one of the largest National NGOs operating in Somalia for its long-term services and achievements in Humanitarian and development sector.
